Title, Description and keywords of a website

Title, Description and keywords of a website

There is a serious debate among website designers and SEO consultants about the importance of meta Title, Keyword, and description.

Everyone seems to agree that the title and description are read by all search engines including Google, Yahoo, and MSN. But, we are all confuse about the use of "meta keyword".

I'm not going to claim that I have a major response to this issue, but I have a valid point to make since I have tested it many times with various websites and in different industries.

First, it is very important for a web designer or SEO consultant to truly understand the client product, service, and targeted market. why am I bringing this point? because you can set up the best SEO work, but in a completely wrong market or in a market that bring no ROI ( Return On Investement) to your client.

Let me illustrate this last point with a real scenario. Apartment locators can locate apartments for anyone in Dallas-Fort worth for free. Yes it is free to the client, but the company is getting paid by the properties. Not all properties pays the same neither. The commission vary from 25% to 225%. As you can see, Free Move Texas will make more profit by referring their clients to apartment properties that pays high commission. In this specific case, the role of an Internet marketer will be to sort out all properties and select the one that will generate more $$$ to the client. This shouldn't be your job, but failure is waiting for you in the corner without it.

Additionally, Your client must have an input in your work, so you can minimize the risk of failure. As you know, most clients will only want to see the final result, which is success. How do you get to that success or how you do it most of the times isn't a concern. So, you must elaborate your own plan. Nothing is perfect. You will have some success and failures, but you need to know how to balance the two to make your client happy.

Now back to our "Meta keyword". What's a meta keyword? and why some much buzz around it today? the shortest answer to this question is "too much abuse occurred with meta keywords". Webmasters were stuffing 100+keywords in order to increase their page ranking with Google and Yahoo. quickly, Google announced that they were no longer looking at keywords, and since Google is 90% of web traffic these days (I'm exagerating-hahahaha), there seem to be a propaganda not to use meta keywords.

Don't be a fool my friend. Google may be controlling 90% of web traffic, but if 50% of your traffic comes from yahoo and others, then it makes sense for you to set up the meta keywords. This is the reason why I said that you must know your client current position, the main source of traffic and evaluate the situation. After all, you may not be so lucky by just advertising on Google.

Meta keyword is still important. If it is not important to google as some claimed, it is important to other search engine companies and you don't want to miss on that traffic.
